A member of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Community who was linked to the murder of a tribal police officer was released from jail, The Arizona Republic reports.

Russell Gutierrez, 36, reportedly belongs to an Indian gang that targeted officer Jair Cabrera, who was killed on the job in May. But tribal prosecutors dropped all charges against him and a tribal judge said he was free to go, the paper reported.

Two other gang members face first-degree murder charges for Cabrera's death. Joey Michael Thomas, 21, and Elijah Loren Arthur Sr., 33, have been indicted in federal court.

Cabrera, who was 37, was the first tribal officer to die in the line of duty.
