Four Indian lawmakers will be serving in the South Dakota Legislature.

Sen. Jim Bradford (D), a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, won his re-election bid. He will be joined in that chamber by Troy Heinert (D), a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, who won election after serving in the House.

Over in the House, Rep. Kevin Killer (D), a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, won his re-election bid. He will be joined by Shawn Bordeaux (D), a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, who is taking over Heinert's seat.

"I still count only four Native legislators in South Dakota: Kevin, Shawn, Jim and myself. However, more Native candidates got close. Maybe next time!” Heinert told Indian Country Today.
