Oklahoma looks into agency that played a role in ICWA dispute

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services is investigation an adoption agency that was involved in a high-profile Indian Child Welfare Act dispute.

Heritage Family Services has a DHS contract to provide a report in cases where a child is adopted across state lines, News on 6 reported. The issue arose when a Cherokee Nation girl was adopted by a non-Indian couple in South Carolina.

The chairman of the board for the agency served as the attorney for that couple.
