Interior Secretary Sally Jewell to meet with tribes in Montana

Interior Secretary Sally Jewell will meet with tribes in Montana this weekend as part of a tour with Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana), the chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

Jewell meets with the Crow Tribe today. She will learn more about plans to build a hydropower project as part of the water rights settlement.

On Sunday, Jewell will meet with the Fort Peck Tribes. Information on the visit was not released by the Interior Department but Tester brought it up at hearing yesterday when a council member testified.

“I look forward to getting out to Big Sky Country and having the opportunity to learn more about the issues that matter most to the people of Montana,” Jewell said in a press release. “I know that Montanans care deeply about their lands and outdoor heritage, and this state is a leading example of how public-private partnerships can produce strong outcomes for healthy lands and a healthy economy.”
