Jimmy Carter seeks permission to bring medical service to tribe


The Carter Center has helped bring health services to Native communities in Latin America.

Former president Jimmy Carter is seeking permission from Brazil and Venezuela to bring medical services to a remote tribe in the Amazon.

Carter said the the Yanomami need treatment for a parasitic worm that often leads to blindness.

"We’re trying to get a diplomatic agreement between the two countries to fly across the border," Carter told the Associated Press.

The Carter Center has been working to eliminate the infection in Latin America.
