Race relations council looking to boost efforts in border town

The race relations council in Bemidji, Minnesota, is looking to revive its efforts.

Shared Vision plans to increase the number of board members from six to 15. One of its first goals is to install more Ojibwe language signs around town.

"This makes Indian people feel more comfortable and more respected in the community,” Shared Vision member Michael Meuers said at a meeting, The Bemidji Pioneer reported.

The group also wants to see flags from the Leech Lake Band, the White Earth Nation and the Red Lake Nation flown at local institutions.
