Another person pleads guilty for Chippewa Cree Tribe scandal

A sixth person pleaded guilty in connection with the theft of federal funds from the Chippewa Cree Tribe.

Tammy Leischner pleaded guilty in federal court to aiding and abetting embezzlement from an Indian tribal government. She admitted that she took part in a scheme to steal federal disaster funds from the tribe.

Leischner's husband was also indicted in connection with the scandal. Federal prosecutors are dropping the charges against him but are pursuing him in two other cases, The Havre Daily News reported.

Of the eight people charged in the scheme, only one has opted to go to trial.
