The former finance director for the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point in Maine pleaded not guilty to theft charges.

Charles Fourcloud, 59, is accused of stealing about $20,000 from the tribe. He was charged with one count of theft from an Indian tribal government and three counts of embezzlement from an Indian tribal organization.

The tribe fired Fourcloud, who goes by various names, last year after discovering his criminal past. He spent 10 years in federal prison on charges that he stole $2.66 million from the Oglala Lakota College in South Dakota.

Fourcloud was arrested in California last month. He almost landed a job with a tribe there until officials with the Fort Bidwell Indian Community found out about his criminal record.
