The New York State Assembly unanimously passed a resolution that condemns the use of racial slurs in sports. K01202 targets the NFL, whose organization is based in New York, and the Washington NFL team. It notes that the R-word is defined as a slur against Native Americans. "Today is so significant because this resolution signifies that New York is making a statement that it wants to stand on the right side of history," Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter said in a press release on Monday, when the bill passed ."New York’s lawmakers clearly understand how important state legislatures have been to previous movements against pathologies like bigotry and inequality.” The tribe is leading the Change the Mascot campaign against the Washington team..
