Proud to Be: NCAI video to air during NBA finals, thanks to ad buy from the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation.
The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation of California has purchased ad time during the NBA finals game tonight. A one-minute version of the Proud to Be video created by the National Congress of American Indians will air during the slot. The video calls attention to the use of racial stereotypes in professional sports. “It’s just a time to get people thinking about putting an end to outward hatred and using sports as a tool to focus on racism,” Chairman Marshall McKay said in a video that the tribe posted in support of the Change the Mascot campaign.

Tribes, Indian organizations and Indian activists have been putting pressure on the NFL and Washington team owner Dan Snyder to eliminate the team's racist mascot. But Snyder has refused and recently hired the McGuireWoods firm to lobby Congress on the matter. A document filed with the House Lobbying Disclosure Database states that the firm will engage in "Discussions of team origins, history and traditions, Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and youth sports, activities of Original Americans' Foundation."
