All members of the Cherokee Nation can purchase tribal tags regardless of where they live in Oklahoma.

The tribe initially sold tags to members who live in 14-county jurisdictional area. A new compact now allows them statewide.

“This is a monumental achievement by the Cherokee Nation, as we are the first tribe in Oklahoma to offer automobile and recreational vehicle tags statewide, across all 77 counties. It’s a boon that will benefit our tribal citizens and is a reflection of the well-cultivated working relationship between the Cherokee tribal government and the state government,” Chief Bill John Baker said in a press release.

The tribe sets aside a portion of the revenues for public schools, roads and law enforcement. Last year, tag sales generated more than $5 million for the reservation.
