New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez (R) is holding an annual summit with tribal leaders today.

SB 196, the State-Tribal Collaboration Act, requires the yearly meeting. It calls on the state and tribes to work together on common concerns.

The meeting is the first since the New Mexico Supreme Court ordered Martinez to recognize the Fort Sill Apache Tribe, whose homelands are in the state. She had refused to invite the tribe to the summit and to deal with the tribe on a government-to-government basis.

The meeting is taking place at Laguna Pueblo.
