Navajo voters to narrow field of 17 candidates for president's job

Voters of the Navajo Nation go to the polls tomorrow to narrow the field for the job of president.

Seventeen candidates are in the running. Included are incumbent Ben Shelly, former two-term president Joe Shirley Jr. and two Navajo Nation Council delegates -- Kenneth Maryboy and Russell Begaye.

The other candidates are Chris Deschene, Edison Wauneka, Donald Benally, Carrie Lynn Martin, Myron McLaughlin, Dale Tsosie, Duane “Chili” Yazzie, Dan Smith, Kee Yazzie Mann, Hank Whitethorne, Edison “Chip” Begay, Moroni Benally and Cal Nez.

The top two candidates will advance to the November 4 general election.
