The Narragansett Tribe is still hoping to acquire surplus U.S. Navy properties in Rhode Island.

The properties are located on Aquidneck Island, which is part of Narragansett territory. The parcels include the 10-acre Naval Hospital complex, a historic site.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has requested the properties on behalf of the tribe. Te Navy has denied the request in 2010 but the tribe is still pursuing the transfer.

The city of Newport also wants the lands for redevelopment.
