The Montana Native Women's Coalition is bringing Native women and men together to advocate for ways to end domestic violence.

The group's conference, Standing in Solidarity to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, began on Wednesday in Billings. Participants discussed how to prevent violence and stop the cycle of violence.

“I saw a fair amount of domestic violence in my family growing up,” Nate St. Pierre, the president of Stone Child College, said at the conference, The Billings Gazette reported. “I thought, ‘How could someone do this to another person, especially when they say they love the person?’ I made it a point at an early age to say that I am never going to harm, beat, kick or punch a woman, and I’m happy to say that I’ve held to that promise.”

The conference concludes today.
