The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold a hearing this month on childhood trauma.

The hearing will take place at 2:30pm on Wednesday, November 19, in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Building. A witness list hasn't been posted online.

The committee is currently chaired by Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana). He will be stepping down from that role in the next session of Congress because Republicans have won control the Senate.

Now that election season is over, lawmakers are heading back to Capitol Hill. In addition to the childhood trauma hearing, Tester has scheduled a confirmation hearing next week for Jonodev Chaudhuri to serve as chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission.

The committee's last hearing before the recess took place September 17. The last business meeting, in which legislation was advanced, was on July 30.

The committee's top Republican is Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyoming). He hasn't said whether he will take the chairman's post in the next session of Congress.

Barrasso's main priority in the current session has been Indian energy. Last year, voted against S.47, a reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act that recognized tribal jurisdiction over non-Indian offenders.
