Senate committee to take up Keystone XL Pipeline bill this week

Republicans take control of the Senate tomorrow and are wasting little time in pushing one of their major priorities -- approval of the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on Wednesday to discuss the Keystone approval bill but no tribal representatives are on the witness list. The next day, the panel will hold a business meeting to advance the measure to the Senate floor so the process is moving quickly with virtually no consultation in Indian Country.

The bill was authored by Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). She will be the new chairwoman of the committee in the 114th Congress.

The hearing and the meeting both take place in Room 366 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. The sessions will be broadcast on the committee's web site at 10am on Wednesday and on Thursday.
