The Oregon State Police seized dozens of tribal artifacts that were apparently destined for sale on the black market.

The Klamath Tribes helped authorities with the seven-month investigation. The items were take from graves and from other archaeological sites that were exposed by a prolonged drought in the Klamath Basin.

"Oregon Law says a person may not remove any archaeological object located on public or private lands unless that activity is authorized by permit," the police said in a press release.

Some of the artifacts are believed to be at least 5,000 years old.
