Lawrence Merrick Jr., a member of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska, was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for sexually abusing a minor.

Merrick, 23, pleaded guilty to one count of abusive sexual contact with a child. He admitted that he abused a girl in an April 2014 incident on the reservation of the neighboring Winnebago Tribe.

Judge Joseph Bataillon handed down the 37-month sentence on Monday. He also ordered Merrick to serve five years of supervised release.
