A young member of the Nischawayasihk Cree Nation in Manitoba is realizing her dream of performing on stage. Aalayna Spence, 21, competed in two treaty day talent competitions this month, CBC News reported. Her participation is historic as the first transgender singer in the women's divisions. "I felt on top of the world, It was a small victory; but for me it was the biggest victory of my life," Spence told CBC of the decisions by the Cross Lake First Nation and the Norway House First Nation to allow her to compete as her chosen gender.
