The leader of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma resigned unexpectedly last week after just six months on the job.

Misty Nuttle tendered her resignation as president on Wednesday night. "I must take care of my own obligations and put my family first in their time of need," the letter stated, according to a press release from the tribe.

What wasn't mentioned were Nuttle's run-ins with the law, The Native American Times reported. She was booked for driving with a suspended license in Tulsa County last Monday and was arrested a second time in Pawnee County on the same day she submitted her resignation, the paper said.

Nuttle was sworn in as president of May. She previously served as treasurer of the tribe.

Vice President W. Bruce Pratt will serve as interim president and council member Adrian Spottedhorsechief will serve as interim vice president until a special election can be held to fill the vacancy, the tribe said in the press release.
