Basketball team from Winnebago Tribe aims for tournament win

The boys basketball team from the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska won their first game in the state championship tournament today.

The Winnebago Indians defeated the Wahoo Warriors 66-50 this morning at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. The team entered the Class C-1 state tournament with 25 wins and 1 loss and hopes to make a strong showing this week.

“We’re not done yet,” senior Mathew Wingett told The Omaha World-Herald after a recent game. “We’re not even close to done. We’ve got three games left, and I ain’t celebrating nothing yet. Our goal is to win state, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

The team's next game takes place tomorrow morning at 9am. The boys will be facing Grand Island Central Catholic.
