The Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma has raised its minimum wage.

Effective immediately, employees will receive $8.50 per hour, or $1.25 above the federal level. That puts the tribe close to its neighbors in Indian Country.

“Some tribes have already gone to a $9 or $10 per hour wage,” Chief Chet Brooks told The Tulsa World. “We did it in the hopes that it will help us attract quality employees.”

The Osage Nation appears to boast the highest minimum wage in northeastern Oklahoma -- $11.50 per hour.
