The California Assembly vote 60 to 9 on Monday to pass a bill that bars the use of the name "Redskins" in public schools. AB30, the California Racial Mascots Act applies to four schools, according to news reports. They would be required to phase out their use of the term by 2017. To address costs, the schools can continue to use uniforms and other materials past 2017 as long as they choose new mascots or nicknames. They will also be eligible for state funds to replace a percentage of their uniforms. The bill awaits action in the Senate. Get the Story:
