National Congress of American Indians gathers in Minnesota

The National Congress of American Indians opened its mid-year session in St. Paul, Minnesota, this morning.

Hundreds of tribal leaders are meeting at the St. Paul RiverCentre to hear from members of Congress and federal officials. Speakers on the agenda include Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minnesota) , Sen. Al Franken (D-Minnesota), Assistant Secretary Kevin Washburn of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Mark Trahant.

NCAI is also debuting its "NDN Talks" as part of the conference. A group of tribal leaders will share their vision for the future of Indian Country as part of what is expected to be an ongoing series.

The conference runs through Wednesday.
