PINE RIDGE—Finding artists in Lakota Country is fairly easy, finding one who is female and a grunge rocker is far more difficult. In steps Davidica, whose new single, U Trust Who, sets the stage for her upcoming album Speaking Truth.

Branding herself as “the only Lakota, female Alternative Grunge Rocker to hit the mainstream airwaves,” Davidica is now beginning to gain airplay from several Native owned radio stations, including KILI 90.I FM on the Pine Ridge Reservation, KLND 89.5 FM serving the Standing Rock & Cheyenne River Reservations as well as Two Worlds Indigenous Radio’ Show on WMNF 88.5  FM out of Tampa, Florida, and on KYNR 1490 AM in Washington State on Yakama Nation radio.

According to a press release announcing the upcoming album, Davidica, comments on her latest single by saying: “U Trust Who is a song written about the irony of control,” said Davidica.

“When one is in a relationship with a spouse, friend, organization or government and are made to believe it is for their own good to stay in the relationship despite their feelings of wrong then it becomes difficult and toxic staying in that relationship making it extremely hard to walk away of end it," Davidica said. "But when they do, there is a powerful sense of freedom.”

The song was produced by Jerrett Weimer & Martin Meyer of Great Sky Studios in Hot Springs.

In addition to being a musical artist Davidica lives on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation and is the founder of Independence Through Music, a mentoring program for youth musicians who live on the reservation.
