The Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico welcomed youth the reopening of the swimming pool on the reservation.

The pool, located in the community center and tribal headquarters, was closed for seven years. The tribe spent the last three months renovating the 118,000-gallon pool and facility.

"If you had come in here two months ago it would have looked like one of those do-it-yourself shows on television," President Danny Breuninger told The Ruidoso News.

The tribe also plans to build an outdoor kiddie pool, the paper said.
