BUFFALO CHIP –– Kelly Quinn, also known as “Throttle Girl” in the motorcycle community, is sponsoring a Native event benefiting One Spirit and the Lakota Nation.

The event, centered in “Lakota Village” at Buffalo Chip begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7 with the Lakota Heritage Ride from Buffalo Chip to Landmark Park in Belle Fourche kicking off at 10:30. The ride will be followed by an after party celebration with t-shirts, Lakota Value Challenge Coins, honorary Lakota friendship gifts, industry sponsored swag bags and free raffle tickets. From 2 to 6 p.m. there will also be a catered BBQ, entertainment and live music.

“Many of us have been working together in unity to prepare a Lakota Black Hills experience that we are all very proud of,” said Throttle Girl. “This is truly the Lakota people and One Spirits stage.”

The event will benefit One Spirit, an organization that feeds families living on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. According to One Spirit director Jerri Baker One Spirit distributed over $200,000 in food over the past year.

“We distribute only fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and fresh meat,” Baker said. “We try to distribute food toward the end of the month when people are running out of EBT.”

One Spirit also partnered with Wings Of America, Nike N7 and Running Strong for American Indian Youth to organize the Lakota Forever Summer Running and Fitness Camps and recently built a new youth center in Allen. Baker said this is the second year that they have worked with Quinn in organizing the fundraising event.

“We did this last year. This year we are doing it at the Lakota Village at Buffalo Chip. The Lakota Honor Guard will be headed up by David Michaud. Also involved are James Cross, John Dubray, Dale Pine, James Pine, Alex Wilson and Amanda Carlow,” she said. “We will have buffalo stew and fry bread.”

She said the gala is not only a fundraising event but also educational, teaching rally goers about the values of the Lakota People.

Throttle Girl reiterated, “More than merely a ride and Sturgis Motorcycle Rally event, this event is intended to move souls. I hope you find yourself excited about the possibility of being a part of this historical event.”
