Leaders of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation broke ground on a new housing development in New Town, North Dakota.

The $5 million Red Hawk Estates will feature a 36-unit apartment building, KXNews reported. Rental rates haven't been announced but they are designed to be affordable.

New Town's population has doubled due to an increase in energy development on the reservation. The North Segment Community Development Corporation opened two apartment buildings and acquired two trailer courts last year to provide more housing options, according to a May 2015 newsletter.
