Madeline Sayet, a young member of the Mohegan Tribe, is directing the flagship production of the Glimmerglass Festival in New York. The adaptation of The Magic Flute includes an "American Indian sensibility," The New York Times reports. James R. Oestrich, the paper's critic, praises Sayet and the production team for bringing a "magical" quality to the well-known German opera classic. Sayet has been recognized by the White House as a Champion of Change. She was one of the first Native youth selected for the honor in December 2011.

In addition to being a director, Sayet is a writer and an actor. She is currently the resident artistic director at Amerinda Inc. and is the co-founder and artistic director of The Mad and Merry Theatre Company. Get the Story:
