Native children already overrepresented in Manitoba's child welfare system and their numbers continue to grow.

Between 80 percent and 90 percent of children in care in the province are Native, according to a number of studies. Cora Morgan, the First Nations Family Advocate for the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, said about one child is removed every day.

"They're still taking children," Morgan, who also serves as the executive director of the Onashowewin Justice Circle, told the Canadian Press. "How can they not want to address what they're doing right now?"

Manitoba has one of the highest apprehension rates in Canada, Morgan told the CP.
