The father of a Native woman who died in a jail cell in South Dakota is considering legal action, the Associated Press reports.

Sarah Lee Circle Bear, a 24-year-old mother, died on July 6. The state's officially blames a methamphetamine overdose but her family has questioned whether she was treated properly.

Circle Bear's father, Terrance Circle Bear, is a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. He is working with out-of-state attorneys but didn't provide details about his legal efforts, the AP said.

Sarah was pregnant when she died, Indian Country Today reported last month.
