LAME DEER, Mont. –– A series of violent events in the last week has residents of the Northern Cheyenne Reservation shook up, worried, feeling threatened and wondering if the spiritual cosmos is out of whack. As a result, traditional military societies and the Chiefs are talking about taking the law into their own hands, confidence in current tribal government and the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement at a seeming all-time low.

This report is based upon information from local tribal members as tribal government officials and the local BIA federal law enforcement did not provide comment.

First was the untimely death of a very young lady from alcohol/drug induced convulsions, the local police unable to render effective medical assistance at the scene.

On the heels of that, a drug-related shooting occurred in the heart of Lame Deer resulting in the killing of a young Crow man and critical injury of another young Crow man, by a Cheyenne.
