California newspaper congratulates the Tule River Tribe for opening the Towanits School:
While some tribes fight over profits from their casinos, the Tule Indian Tribe has put its money to good use and possibly the best project the Tribe has begun is the just-opened elementary school on the reservation.

The school, Towanits School, opened this fall and offers classes in kindergarten through third grade. It is the first tribe-controlled school in the history of the Tribe, leaders said.

The school will meet, or exceed, the same standards of any public or private school in the area, said director Dr. Jerry Livesely. His goal is to expand the school to offer classes through high school.
