An Oklahoma woman who is said to be a member of the Cherokee Nation is undergoing a mental evaluation after authorities said she drove her car into a crowd on Saturday, killing four people.

Adacia Avery Chambers, 25, is being held on $1 million bond in connection with the incident at the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade in Stillwater. She has not yet been formally indicted but faces second-degree murder charges for the deaths of Marvin Stone, 65, Bonnie Stone, 65, Nakita Prabhakar, 23, and two-year old Nash Lucas. Dozens more were injured.

Chambers received mental health treatment at the Indian Health Service and at another facility in Oklahoma, her attorney and her father said. Her family lives in Oologah, a town within the historic Cherokee Reservation.

"She’s Cherokee Indian," attorney Tony Coleman said of Chambers at a press conference following the incident, KFOR reported. "And they are very well-known and loved and respected in Oologah where they’re from."

The Payne County District Attorney's Office intends to file four counts of second-degree homicide against Chambers. Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.

"The evidence suggests this was an intentional act, not an accident," district attorney Laura Austin Thomas said in a press release.
