Elderly meals program in Porcupine re-opens

Special to Native Sun News PORCUPINE –– The Social and Nutrition Elderly Program in Porcupine on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation was temporarily shutdown recently. When the lunch program closed its doors, many became concerned for the elders whom rely on the Elderly Program to eat daily, especially during the cold winter months. Native Sun News interviewed Mary Felicia, former site manager for Porcupine Social and Nutrition for the Elderly Meals located in Evergreen Housing. Felicia was hired on August 13, 2015 by the former Director of Social and Nutrition Elderly Program Director, Rene Mills. Many of the elders liked her cooking and she had a passion for helping to feed as many of the seniors and many of them had grown up together. Mary Felicia told Native Sun News, “Rene Mills was a good supervisor because he made sure all employees were accountable for their job duties.”
