The Yurok Tribe of California is dealing with an increase in suicide on the reservation.

In the past 18 months, seven people in the community of Weitchpec have taken their lives, The Daily Triplicate reported. They were between the ages of 16 and 31, the paper said.

“Every Yurok has a real connection with the Weitchpec area and a very real connection to this heartbreaking crisis,” Chairman James Dunlap said in a press release that was quoted by the paper.

Dunlap said the tribe needs more health and social services to address the needs on the reservation.
