Award-winning singer Joanne Shenandoah (Oneida Nation) is set to receive a much-needed liver transplant, The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

Shenandoah was approved for the transplant list, her family said on Facebook and GoFundMe. She is waiting for surgery at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Florida.

Shenandoah's liver shut down after she suffered a bacterial infection. She told the paper that she believes she contracted the bacteria after visiting a hospital last summer.

"It has been a challenging six months but I am ready for the next step," Shenandoah told the paper last month.
