OGLALA –– A small group of educated Oglala Lakota citizens have teamed up to empower their fellow “millennials” to get involved in tribal government.

“Our target audience is 35 and under. Our goal is to bring awareness to cultivate change,” stated Peri Pourier, a co-facilitator of Oglala Lakota Next Generation. The team has a vision of a future where tribal government is accountable, reliable, and fulfills its responsibility to the people.

According their mission statement, this group of young visionaries strives to “… build the power of the Next Generation to lead and influence tribal government reform and enhance the effectiveness for the betterment of today and future Oglala Lakota generations.”

On Tuesday, May 9, 2016, the group hosted their third event at the OLC Oglala College Center. The agenda for this bi-weekly meeting included open discussion on the Tribe’s upcoming Alcohol Referendum Election procedures.

Guest speaker Bruce Whalen praised the group for coming together.
