RAPID CITY –– Opening a business in today’s economy is a challenge for any venture, but a Lakota opening a business in Rapid City and keeping doors open for a year is a true accomplishment and has been a sacred journey for Paul Fiddler.

Paul Fiddler (Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe), owner of Phuzion Storm Tattoo of Rapid City, celebrated the one year anniversary on Thursday, May 5, 2016. Family, friends and artists gathered to honor the Lakota artist and spiritual transcriber.

Native Sun News interviewed Fiddler at Phuzion Storm, who credits his business success to family loyalty and his Lakota spirituality (Wowakan).

“Before it was anything, it was a dream. It was merely an experience of a blessing which came out of the loss of my first born son. They told me in ceremony the only way to live through my son would be to live through my art work,” Fiddler lamented over the loss of his unborn son several years back.

In spring 2014 while working construction, Fiddler was hit by a concrete truck while hauling concrete in a wheel barrow on a construction site. “I came to and I was knocked out. I had to go through surgery on my spine. I was really traumatized by that.”
