PINE RIDGE -- When it was announced last month that David "Bull Dawg" Michaud would be facing fellow UFC veteran Diego Lima it at Titan FC 39 in Florida it was seen as a solid opportunity for the Pine Ridge native to earn a new contract with the UFC. Now, however, the matchup is now for the Titan FC title and likely a guaranteed invite back to the UFC.

In a conversation with LCT from his training camp in Glendale, Arizona, the Oglala Sioux fighter confirmed that the fight will in fact be for the title and that he was "healthy and focused on the task ahead."

Michaud (10-2) is set to face Diego Lima (10-4) for the vacant welterweight title. Michaud has bounced back and forth from lightweight (155 lb) to welterweight (170 lb) throughout his career, but despite giving up some size in the welterweight division he has looked more explosive at the heavier weight. Lima has been praised for his striking ability but is coming off back to back knockout losses in the UFC.

The fight was originally intended to be a title eliminator but the recent signing by the UFC of Titan FC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad, Michaud and Lima will face off for the belt.

Both fighters have suffered losses to UFC veteran Jiangliang Li. Lima lost to Jiangliang by knockout and Michaud by split decision despite having controlled much of the first round. The fight will be one of three title fights on the June 10 at BankUnited Center in Coral Gable, Fla.
