Police officers from the Oglala Sioux Tribe have been cleared in connection with the death of a woman in Nebraska, KCSR reports.

The February 23 incident started when officers from Fall River County in South Dakota started pursuing a vehicle. Officers from the tribe's Department of Public Safety took over when the vehicle entered the Pine Ridge Reservation and kept going when the car crossed into Nebraska.

Officers from Nebraska were prepared to give chase when the car turned back toward the reservation and collided with a tribal police cruiser, KCSR reported. The driver, a 34-year-old tribal member named Kerry Peters died at the scene.

Since the incident occurred in Nebraska, state law required a grand jury investigation, KCSR reported. But the jury found no fault on behalf of any of the officers, the station said.
