Two California tribes have acquired a majority stake in a manufacturing firm that creates shipping containers for the military.

The Cachil Dehe Band of Wintun Indians, also known as the Colusa Indian Community, and the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians are majority partners in PRC Composites, The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports. The firm hopes its new status will lead to more government contracts for minority-owned businesses.

"The government has incentive to do business with (minority-owned) businesses and to help grow minority businesses," Gene Gregory, the firm's president, told the paper. He led Rep. Norma Torres (D-California), a member of the House Subcommittee on Indian, Insular and Alaska Native Affairs, on a tour of the facility on Monday.

PRC Composites is located in Ontario, about 75 miles north of the Rincon Reservation. The Cachil Dehe Band is based in northern California.
