The Osage Nation officially took ownership to a 43,000-acre ranch within the boundaries of its original reservation in Oklahoma.

The tribe paid just over $74 million for the Bluestem Ranch. Plans call to conserve the site but Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear said other proposals are being considered, as long as their consistent with Osage values.

"It’s our responsibility to preserve this land for the future," Standing Bear said during a celebration at the site on Wednesday, The Tulsa World reported.

The tribe is filing a land-into-trust application for the property, The World reported. It was formerly owned by media mogul Ted Turner.
