Native Sun News: Indian relay champion Hermis Tall passes away

Hermis Tall

Family by definition are those who share direct genetic relationship with you. We do not believe that that is the extent of the definition of family. True family shares a common set of values, beliefs and traditions. We are a family here and share in the sorrow when one of our family is no longer with us. We are deeply struck by the passing of Hermis D Champ Tall. His passion for Indian Relay was evident in every race he rode in. Words can not begin to convey the grief we all feel. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the Sioux Nation.

MANDERSON –– Last month, the Indian horse relay racing world lost one of the greatest riders in history in Hermis Janis Tall, 25, (Oglala Lakota).

Three-time World Indian Horse Relay Champion, Tall, made his journey on Aug. 25, 2016 on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

The horse racing world is a small, tightknit community and his passing is felt by his teammates, competitors, and sponsors alike.

The Professional Indian Horse Racing Association recently stated, “Family by definition are those who are direct genetic relationship with you. We do not believe that that is the extent of the definition of family. True family shares a common set of values, beliefs and traditions. We are a family here and share in the sorrow when one of our family is no longer with us.”
