A member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band is recovering after fending off a bear attack in Saskatchewan.

Jack Ballantyne, 44, got some scratches on his arm but otherwise did not suffer serious injuries during the attack, according to news reports. His sister told CBC News that he fought off the bear with his hands and a bottle.

"His hand was puffed up, too. He said he punched the bear in the nose," Rose Ballantyne told CBC.

The attack occurred early Friday morning in La Ronge, Chief Tammy Cook-Searson said on Facebook. The bear has yet to be located.
