The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians in California held an election on Saturday.

According to The Sierra Star, voters ousted two of the three incumbents who were running. Nokomis Hernandez, who was serving as vice chair, and Dora Jones, a member at-large, lost their seats, the paper reported.

Tom Walker was the only incumbent who retained his seat, the paper reported. Heather Airey and Patrick Hammond are the newcomers to the seven-member council.

The tribe has gone through turmoil in recent years but has attempted to put its leadership disputes to rest by holding elections. Another vote for the other four seats on the council will take place next year.
