The Poarch Band of Creek Indians announced a huge family and tourist destination along the Alabama coast.

The $500 million Owa development includes an amusement park, hotel, retail and other amenities, according to a fact sheet. The 520-acre project is located next to the Foley Sports Tourism Complex, a facility owned by the city of Foley.

“As a tribe, we have worked hard to ensure that our businesses bring revenue and jobs into the state and add to the quality of life in the rural communities where they are located,” Chairwoman Stephanie A. Bryan said in a press release. “Owa is being built in this tradition, and we are very excited to be both neighbors and partners with the city of Foley in bringing economic development to this area.”

The first phase of Owa, which means big water in Creek, is expected to open by the summer of 2017. Future plans call for a water park, an RV park, additional hotels and housing.
