Anti-Indian groups to hold press conference in DC

Three anti-Indian groups, two old and one new, will hold a press conference today attacking the federal recognition and land-into-trust process. One Nation, United Property Owners and the Citizens Equal Rights Alliance are calling for a moratorium on all recognition and land-into-trust decisions. The groups say reforms need to be enacted. One Nation (http://www.onenationok.com) is a new group from Oklahoma but is seeking a greater national voice. Its national director is Barb Lindsay, the executive director of United Property Owners (http://www.unitedpropertyowners.org), a group that got its start in Washington opposing the treaty rights of Indian fishermen. UPOW, as the group was first known, is closely linked to the Citizens Equal Rights Alliance (http://www.citizensalliance.org), also known as the Citizens Equal Rights Foundation. The groups are national in scope but share a common membership. They are also allied with the Upstate Citizens for Equality (http://www.upstate-citizens.org) in New York. The groups oppose "preferential" treatment for tribal governments and Indian people, whether it be sovereignty, treaty rights or taxation.
