Eastern Cherokee chief facing impeachment hearing
Friday, August 8, 2003

Eastern Cherokee principal chief Leon Jones will go before an impeachment hearing on Monday.

Jones and council member Bob Blankenship are accused of using a tribal membership list for political gain. Blankenship used the list to send a letter to off-reservation tribal members, accusing other council members of diluting their rights.

Jones is already on his way out of office. He was ousted in a June primary.
